Revolutionizing UAE Travel

Revolutionizing UAE Travel: Seagliders Set to Connect Abu Dhabi and Dubai

The future of transportation in the UAE is taking an exciting turn with the introduction of seagliders, set to transform the journey between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. American company Regent Craft is developing these innovative electric-powered vehicles that promise to cut travel time between the two cities to a mere 25 minutes.

The Viceroy: A Marvel of Engineering

Regent's flagship seaglider, named "Viceroy," is a hybrid vehicle that combines the best features of boats and planes. Here are some key details:

• Capacity: Up to 12 passengers

• Speed: Can reach speeds of up to 290 km/h (180 mph)

• Range: Approximately 180 miles (290 km) on a single charge

• Wingspan: 20 meters (65 feet)

• Technology: Uses "wing-in-ground effect" to glide just above the water's surface

How Seagliders Work

These innovative vehicles operate in three modes:

1. Floating: Boards like a boat at the dock

2. Foiling: Rises on hydrofoils when leaving the harbor

3. Flying: Takes off on wings in open water, gliding 20-30 feet above the surface

Environmental and Economic Benefits

• Zero Emissions: 100% electric propulsion system

• Noise Reduction: 30 decibels quieter than aircraft or helicopters

• Cost-Effective: Lower operating costs compared to traditional ferries or planes

The UAE's Vision for Seagliders

The Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) has partnered with Regent to bring this technology to the UAE. Plans include:

• Manufacturing seagliders locally in Abu Dhabi by the end of the decade

• Integrating seagliders into the existing UAE transportation network

• Connecting underserved island communities like Dalma and Sir Bani Yas

Timeline and Future Prospects

• Testing: Full-scale prototype testing expected to begin in 2024

• Commercial Launch: Aimed for mid-decade, around 2025

• Expansion: Potential for larger 100-passenger models by 2030

The introduction of seagliders represents a significant leap in transportation technology for the UAE, promising to enhance connectivity, reduce travel times, and offer an eco-friendly alternative to existing transport options. As the project develops, it could revolutionize not just travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, but potentially reshape coastal transportation across the region.
